Savannah College of Art and Design Trustee and cofounder May Lewis Poetter died Wednesday at the age of 94.
Poetter, her husband, the late Paul Poetter; Richard Rowan, and SCAD President Paula Wallace; founded the college in September 1978. Poetter served as SCAD’s first admission representative, SCAD’s first executive vice president for admission, and had served on the SCAD Board of Trustees since 1996. Even more, May was a surrogate mother to many SCAD students and the animating spirit of the entire university, according to SCAD.
